In the name of Allah who is the most beneficient and merciful

Slow and med. speed engine use fresh water to circulate and cool the cylinder jacket covers, pistons, exhaust v/v(if fitted) and turbocharger as these parts are subjected to work under high temp's and pressure conditions, cooling if required to prevent the overheating of these parts. Fresh water is most common medium employed. Fresh water may cause the deposits of salt on heated surfaces resulting pitting and corrosion hence chemical additives are added in the circulating water is cooled and pitting. circulating water is cooled in the coolers by passing sea water in sea coolers.
